Joanna is an award winning production designer based in London, working in the UK and internationally. She received the Whatsonstage ‘Best Set Designer’ Award for her site specific design of The Railway Children, which went on to win the Olivier ward for Best Entertainment in 2011.

Having trained at The Royal Shakespeare Company, she has developing a unique path through the Theatre & Live Arts industry. From this classical initiation in stage design, her design projects have taken her from sets for fashion, performances on lakes, journeys through tunnels, games in royal palaces and live television broadcasts. Her work specializes in creating unique and extraordinary experiences, inhabiting spaces from the intimate to the epic.

Joanna’s diverse output includes commissions by the RSC, Old Vic, Channel 4 Arts, Kensington Palace, Covent Garden, European Olympic Committee and Unicef UK. Her recent theatre work includes productions at the Young Vic, Royal Court, Manchester Royal Exchange and the Abbey Theatre Dublin. Her design work has been exhibited at the V&A Museum’s ‘From Gaga to Gormley’ and the Royal Academy for Arts.

Joanna recently designed the opening ceremony for the Baku2017 ISLAMIC SOLIDARITY GAMES at the Baku Olympic Stadium, Azerbaijan. Her current work includes CUTTIN’ IT, by Charlene James, directed by Gbolahan Oblisesan at the Young Vic & The Royal Court Theatre, nominated for the Olivier 2017 Outstanding Achievement Award. Also, KATIE ROCHE, directed by Caroline Bryne at the Abbey Theatre, Dublin.
